After Harvard Business Review named Data Scientist as “The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century”, jobs in the data industry have exploded. With this massive growth – there is a large need to new vendors to manage this data, new research departments on how to use it and conferences based on education and networking for data science.
Big Data, Data Mining, Text Mining, NLP, Text Analytics, Semantic Analysis – however you classify yourself, there is a conference for you.
A lot of events aim to foster collaboration among Data Science academics and practitioners focusing on text data. We have reached a point in Data Science where there is an increasing demand to integrate information from text data into models. This workshop calls for recent advances made both in the area of theoretical Text Processing dealing with lower level algorithms as well applications in Text Mining. The workshop aims to foster collaboration between academic researchers and practitioners so that the two groups could be able to integrate new advances in approaches into real world innovations being worked on by the practitioners.
Let’s take a look at a few of these events for 2017 that are at the top of my list:
22nd International Conference on Natural Language & Information Systems (June 2017)
Since 1995, the NLDB conference brings together researchers, industry practitioners, and potential users interested in various application of Natural Language in the Database and Information Systems field. The integration of databases and natural language has been quest for many years; yet progress has been made, and it is now an established field thanks to developments in Natural Language and technologies, which made the storage and analysis of large electronic corpora possible. http://nldb2017.conferences.hec.ulg.ac.be/
Text Analytics World (June 2017)
The program has many different sessions that demonstrate practical deployments across a wide range of industries, large and small. Some topics are voice of customer, security & fraud, Big data, computer generated data and healthcare. http://www.textanalyticsworld.com/
18th Annual EPIA Conference for Artificial Intelligence (Sept 2017).
EPIA is a well-established international conference on Artificial Intelligence, supported by Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA). https://web.fe.up.pt/~epia2017/
The 4th IEEE International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (Oct 2017)
International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA) started in 2014 aiming to be a flagship in the data science and analytics field. It provides a premier forum that brings together researchers, industry practitioners, as well as potential users of data science and big data analytics. It covers all data science and analytics related areas, including statistical, probabilistic and mathematical methods, machine learning, data and business analytics, data mining and knowledge discovery, infrastructure, storage, retrieval and search, privacy and security, and relevant applications, practices, tools and evaluation. http://www.dslab.it.aoyama.ac.jp/dsaa2017/
The purpose of each of these conferences is to promote research in Text Mining, Data Mining, NLP, and AI to create a scientific exchange among researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers in each of their disciplines.
